Human Skeleton

Under the skin

Keep rowing on the rowing machine and notice what is going to happen. Human movement is often taken for granted and we do not realise that apparently simple tasks, such as walking or writing, require precise and controlled coordination of several systems. One of them is the active locomotor apparatus which executes the actual movement. It is made up of muscles and tendons and there are about 600 muscles in the human body. The passive locomotor apparatus consists of bones and joints. They protect some of the internal organs and at the same time provide support for the muscles. Without the skeleton our body would be a mere heap of organs and muscle tissue held together by the skin.
