Food imports presents a load on the environment by high amounts of CO2 released during transport, so we speak of the carbon footprint of food. In order to endure the long journey, imported food is harvested unripe. Different types of foodstuffs have various nutritional values. They inform us of the amount of energy and the content of nutrients.
