Pressure fountain

Let physics refresh you

If we run liquid into a cylinder with holes drilled into it at various heights, the liquid will spout from these holes to specific distances. This is caused by the pressure which changes along with the varying depth of the water column. The highest pressure is at the lowest hole where the water will spurt farthest from the cylinder. On the contrary, the lowest pressure is at the topmost hole from where the water spurts weakest. A situation may occur when the water from multiple holes splurges to the same distance. You will find out when and under what conditions this happens when you try out the fountain hands on. This phenomenon is described by Torricelli's law.
