Shadow Play
Move and see how your shadow changes
The red, green and blue light falling on the wall is mixed, which is why you see the light as white. Your shadow is coloured, however, because the individual lights do not shine onto exactly the same spot. In addition, a yellow and purple shadow also appears at the edges. Yellow is created by mixing red and green light; the blue light is missing because your body blocks it. A purple shadow is created by mixing red and blue light. What color is created by mixing green and blue light?
Shadow Play demonstrates additive colour mixing of light—the same principle used in phone, monitor, and TV displays.
